The concept of Sainik Schools was the brain child of Late Shri VK Krishna Menon, the then Defence Minister of India. The need to give a good representation to all cross sections of society in the officer cadre of the Armed Force was strongly felt at that time. Sainik Schools were envisaged to function like feeder institutions to the prestigious National Defence Academy.
